The Man Behind The Mic
Tom Bourret - K6ABC
I am a retired commercial/aerial photographer and live on a 45 acre ranch near the coast in Sonoma County, Northern California. I became Interested in radio in the late 1940's with a home built crystal radio and later a low powered AM broadcast transmitter.
I operated as 12W2006 in the early days of CB (1958) and amassed a fair collection of QSL cards from all over the US and beyond. I drifted away from radio in 1962 but returned in 1978 when a Yaesu FT-101E was placed aboard our 40' ketch for a 2 year sailing voyage to Mexico, French Polynesia, and the Hawaiian Islands. I came back to ham radio only recently, and now my XYL, Beth (KJ6DCT) and son- in-law John, (KJ6KAT) have also joined the ranks.
Numerous photos of the QTH and other details are on QRZ. For 40 meters a 525' horizontal loop at 60-80'AGL is used.
We now travel in the winter to warmer and dryer climes with a 30' 5th wheel which is set up for boon-docking with solar, various radios and antennas.
